Utila Dive Center

Utila Dive Center

In the early 1990s, the dive industry on Utila was in its infancy, with few centres and training programs.

Utila Dive Centre (UDC) was set up in 1991 by a group of passionate Diving Instructors who wanted to create a dive training facility which offered amazing dive experiences and educational programs for visitors to Utila.

Utila Dive Centre is now managed by a team of experienced, young, passionate, and environmentally aware dive professionals who are actively involved in the daily operations of the dive centre. Our training programs, from beginner through to Master Instructor, are taught to the highest standard possible

There is no other facility in Utila, Honduras or elsewhere in Central America that has such a combination of experience, commitment, and enthusiasm. We aim to provide our divers and students with more than just diver education, and that is what makes our team so successful. We are on the cutting edge of training and conservation and set the standard for many dive operations and professionals in the region.

In the last few years we have received countless awards from PADI for our training programs. In 2003, UDC was awarded the rating of a PADI Career Development Center (CDC). It is to date the only PADI CDC facility in Central America. UDC is also a PADI National Geographic Centre and a Divers Alert Network (DAN) member.

In 2004 we were voted No 1 Dive Facility worldwide for entry level training. Also from 2004 to 2008 our PADI Course Directors (Instructor Trainers) received Certificates of Excellence for their Instructor Training Programs. In 2006, the 'Divers Alert Network' (DAN) rewarded our Instructor trainers for their commitment to promoting safe diving, and from 2006 - 2008 we also received the PADI Project Aware 'Environmental Achievement' award. In 2006 Utila Dive Centre was one of the founding members of the 'Utila Centre for Marine Ecology' (UCME), a non-profit NGO headed by marine biologist Dr Stephen Box.  UCME is dedicated to protecting Utila's delicate marine environment through research, scientific studies, and education.

UDC offers a technical dive training from both DSAT and IANTD, the two most respected agencies in technical diver training. On top of this, it is also the only facility in Central America/Bay Islands to offer diver level and Instructor training with the 'Beautiful Oceans' Science and Marine Ecology Programs.

We're all aware that the future of the diving industry can never be predicted, but we understand that only by promoting and teaching diving in a safe and professional manner will we create a better 'underwater world'. We place emphasis on marine conservation and environmental sustainability and want you to have fun being a part of it!

That's why our divers are more educated and skillful and why our professionals are more successful than most other facilities.

There is no substitute for the experience of our staff. This includes Boat Captains, Instructors, Management, and our PADI Course Directors (who conduct the Divemaster and Instructor training). The experience and expertise of our staff, the standard of our facilities, and our continued success has raised the standard of training, education and conservation within the Bay Islands.

We invite you to come to Utila and dive with us. Whether you are a novice or an expert diver, we will show you why Utila Dive Centre has been so successful in training more divers than anywhere else in the world. We are often copied but never surpassed. At Utila Dive Centre, diving is our business - but first and foremost, it is our passion.

Turtle Beach Lodge

Turtle Beach Lodge

Turtle Beach Lodge is a secluded resort spanning 175 acres. It encompasses miles of jungle trails, a meandering private canal and a half mile of isolated beach on the Caribbean Sea.

Our lodge provides highly trained staff and guides who ease you into an extraordinary jungle experience. Tortuguero has incredible biological variety due to the existence of eleven different habitats, including rainforest, swamps, beaches and lagoons. The beaches are a key nesting ground for endangered sea turtles, including Hawksbill, Loggerheads, Green and Leatherbacks. Manatees, caiman and crocodiles live in the canals and the jungle is home to endangered jaguars, three species of monkeys (spider, howler, and white-faced Capuchin) and three-toed sloths. Basilisk lizards and tree frogs inhabit the area, along with 375 species of birds. There are more than 400 species of trees and approximately 2,200 species of plants.

Return from your explorations each day and relax on the beach, in a hammock by the pool or perhaps kayak through the canals. Play chess, cards or have a cool drink in our bar rancho and enjoy a leisurely dinner with your fellow travelers. Whether you are seeking adventure, relaxation or a combination of the two, the unique location and diversity of Turtle Beach Lodge provides an unforgettable experience for all.

For the GPS crowd, we are located at N10° 37' 27.62" W83° 32' 25.28", and yes, geocachers, there is at least one geocache in the jungles of Tortuguero!

We are a viable part of the community and proudly support local organizations, donating annually to COTERC to support turtle research and helping to build their museum. We also provide support for the volunteers of Global Vision International. We rebuilt the school in the neighboring pueblo of San Francisco and donated musical instruments and the money for traditional clothing to form a children's dance troupe there. We reguarly donate to the police department and the school in the Village of Tortuguero. Arrangements can be made in advance if you want to combine your vacation with us with volunteer opportunities in either village.

Livingstone Safari Lodge & Campsite

Livingstone Safari Lodge & Campsite

Located near the Victoria Falls, Livingstone Safari Lodge & Campsite and opposite the Mosi-oa-Tunya Game Park, near all the activities in the Victoria Falls and Livingstone area. So if you are into adrenalin rushes or traffic jams (of the elephant kind), this is the place to stay. Ideal for corporate functions and incentive groups.

Victoria Falls near Livingstone, Zambia

Like the owner manager Tjisse Kamstra, the Lodge and environs can only be described as rustic and eccentric. Tjisse will strive to ensure that your experience at Livingstone Safari Lodge & Campsite will be both unique and unforgettable.

We are not an impersonal "heads on pillows" "guests are numbers" establishment, but rather, take pride in getting to know each and every individual who arrives at our door.

Livingstone Safari Lodge Manager Tjisse Kamstra
We take an interest in why a guest would throw themselves off a 120 meter high cliff face with only a glorified piece of rubber band tied to their ankles, or would want to fly over these ancient waterfalls in an archaic cloth covered biplane.
After all, we are here to make this one of the most memorable experiences of your lifetime.
